A 1969 limited first English translation of Petri Bembi de Aetna Liber (Pietro Bembo on Etna). Published in 1969 by Officina Bodoni in 1969. The work reproduces a 15th century Roman type face. Numbered 95 of 125 English copies printed. Bound in red morocco and Ingres paper with matching slipcase.
Pietro Bembo (Venice, 1470-1547) climbed Mt. Etna in 1493 and wrote De Aetna, the first detailed description of the volcano, which was originally published by Aldus Manutius in 1496. This is publication is the first translation into English. One of the forty copies provided to the Bodley Head, London.
