After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then studying art at Jepson Art Institute, David Weidman began his career as an animator for United Productions of America. He is credited for developing UPA’s modern style and worked as a background painter on series including The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo, The Boing-Boing Show and Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol. Throughout his career Weidman was a prolific producer of silkscreen prints, developing a distinct modern style. Though he quit producing the prints in 1980, his work gained widespread recognition after it was featured on the sets of the AMC television series Mad Men beginning in 2007.
