Scribner's Iconic 1895 Lithograph Poster for "Last Quarter Century In America"

Scribner’s iconic 1895 black-and-white lithograph poster advertising the publication ‘Last Quarter Century in America’ to show a male nude with a laurel leaf crown, draped in cloth and carrying a torch. The image was created by Kenyon Cox (1856-1919) and the artist’s monogram is in the lower left corner. Kenyon Cox studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, then in Philadelphia and Paris before moving to New York in 1882 where he became well established as a magazine illustrator. Kenyon Cox was also an influential teacher at the Art Students League of New York where he designed the Academy’s logo as well. The poster is matted under glass and finished using an appropriate thin black frame.
