George III Era Walnut Parcel Gilt Mirror, 18th Century

Item Details

A George III era parcel gilt walnut mirror, circa 1770. The restored mirror features carved filigree decoration to the top and bottom of the frame, gilded pierced foliate carving to the top of the frame, gilded floral carvings along the sides, and gilded edge detailing surrounding the mirror. The reverse of the mirror bears three pages adhered to the panel, with printed text bearing the long ‘s’ found in eighteenth century texts. A contemporary wire for hanging is affixed to the reverse. The piece is unsigned.

- restored; slight imperfections to wood frame, with some cracking to the veneer at bottom right and cracking to gesso at top. Disguised imperfection at bottom of frame; center seam splitting.
