A collection of three oil paintings on paper and paperboard by well-listed Irish-American artist Cathal Brendan O’Toole (1904-1991). These works feature floral motifs rendered with irregular color patches and gestural brushstrokes in various vibrant colors. Each work includes the artist’s estate stamp to the verso. All are presented unframed.

Irish-born artist Cathal Brendan O’Toole was known for his paintings, engravings and etchings including Chariot (1936). O’Toole first began to study fine art at the Glasgow School of Art before moving to New York to become a commercial artist after a stint as captain in the Irish Republican Army. O’Toole continued his studies in New York City at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. Later, he started his career teaching at Finch Junior College. During his lifetime O’Toole received much sponsorship for his work, including two Tiffany Foundation fellowships and the Pulitzer Traveling Scholarship in 1934. His work has been exhibited in the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy Museum (New York), and the Virginia Museum of Art as well as many others.
