David Maass was born in Rochester, Massachusetts and is known for his detailed wildlife illustrations and paintings. He is largely a self-taught artist who has been personally encouraged by other wildlife artist such as Stu Ferreira and close friend David Hagerbaumer. As a young boy, Maass loved birds; he raised pigeons and would even nurse injured birds back to health. His care and passion for wildlife has translated into his work, which has been prolifically published in Wild Wings and is housed in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minnesota.
