A two volume oversized hardcover set of The Soldier in Our Civil War edited by Paul F. Mottelay, with an introduction by Robert B. Beath, published 1884 by the J.H. Brown Publishing Company of New York. The work is a ‘pictorial history of the conflict’, with numerous engravings based on sketches from various battlefield artists, and accompanying text. Each volume is bound in a leather hardcover with stamped and gilt lettering and a soldier figure to the front board.

- spine veneers missing to both pieces, both boards detached to Vol. II, book tape repairs to hinges of Vol. I, moderate cover wear with bumped corners, mostly clean interiors with light paper discoloration.
