A mid 20th-century oil painting on canvas by listed American artist Bill Bender (1919-2016). This rural landscape features a fenced fild populated with cows and a small barn. The work is signed and illegibly inscribed to the lower left. It is presented in a rustic beige wood frame. A label to the verso is inscribed with the artist’s name and specifically dated ‘11/21/59’.

Bill Bender is mostly a self-taught artist who turned to painting and illustration while recovering from a rodeo injury. He accompanied artist James Swinnerton on painting trips and became known for his paintings of desert landscapes, horses, cattle, and ranch scenes. Among his collectors were President Dwight D. Eisenhower, J. Edgar Hoover, and Supreme Court Justice Tom Clark, among other political figures.

- patched one-inch puncture to lower central area of canvas; in painting surrounding patched area; small spots of accretion and stains scattered throughout painting; craquelure throughout painting; some wear to frame includes small chips, splits in wood, stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
