A late 19th century watercolor portrait on paper by well-listed Italian-American watercolorist Maria Martinetti (Italy/California; 1864 – 1921). This romantic portrait of an Italian woman is signed by the artist to the upper right, protected behind glass and mounted in a moulded gold tone wood frame.

Martinetti studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and was a student of Orientalist genre painter Gustavo Simoni (1846 – 1926). She exhibited works across Italy and France before moving to the United States in 1890.
