Jack Meanwell (1919 – 2005) is a renowned Cincinnati artist who painted in a wide spectrum from realism to abstract expressionist art. He was well-known for his dramatic, abstract landscapes painted in bright colors and bold strokes, and his dynamic gestural figure drawings. Meanwell was born in Windsor, Canada, and taught at the Cincinnati Art Academy for over twenty five years. He holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters. Meanwell is often associated and comparable to fellow Cincinnati painter and abstract expressionist, Paul Chidlaw (1900 – 1989). Their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell – Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
