An oil painting on canvas by listed artist Sylvester Martin (1856 – 1906), created in 1878. This work features two people in carriage ride in the foreground, amidst a British hunting scene occurring in the fields extending to the distant background. The work is signed and dated to the lower left. It is presented in a gold-tone gesso and wood frame with undulating edges and foliate molding. An inscription to the canvas verso appears to read ‘S. Martin. / Brook Cottage / Hall Gheen / Birm’.

Condition

- spot of paint loss and small hole present to upper right; small spots of paint loss scattered throughout painting; craquelure throughout painting; some wear in frame includes small chips, stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
