A circa 1915 antique G.T. Marsh & Co. imported Japanese handwoven silk furisode kimono, hand decorated in yuzen resist-dyed design. This midnight and aqua blue kimono features botan (peony), kiku (chrysanthemum), ragiku (spider chrysanthemum), umebachi (Japanese plum blossom), kasamatsu (hat of pine), momiji (autumn leaves), sasanoha (leaves of bamboo grass), sensu (folding fans) and other motifs and kanoko (fawn spots), seigaiha (wave design), tatewaku (undulating lines) and other patterns. It is partially lined in tatewaku pattern red silk damask and off-white fabric sewn to the uraeri (inner collar) after market.
Condition
- to fair; uneven stitching throughout, some snags to stitching causing lining to split in several areas, soiling to bottom hem and bottom of right sleeve, musty odor.
