A pastoral oil painting on canvas mounted to board by English artist Kershaw Schofield (Yorkshire, 1872 – 1941). The painting depicts a small herd of cows grazing in a field, painted with Schofield’s signature low horizon line. The painting is signed to the lower right and presented in a wooden frame with cast embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire.

Schofield was a member of the Bradford Art Club and manager of a photography studio called The Grosvenor Studio. He was best-known for his landscapes, which were mostly painted of the countryside near his home. He exhibited extensively with the Yorkshire Union of Artists, as well as other noted venues including the Royal Academy, Cartwright Hall, Bradford, Huddersfield Art Gallery, the Hepworth Wakefield, and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
