An oil painting on canvas depicting a self portrait of well-listed artist Caroline Lord (Ohio, 1860 – 1927). This nearly full-length portrait features a three-quarter view of a Caroline Lord with a direct gaze, portrayed with smooth chiaroscuro. Unsigned, the work is presented in a period style gilt frame with beaded trim and an undulating center border. A wire hanger is present to the verso. Includes an attached brass museum light.
Based in Cincinnati, Caroline Lord studied at the Cincinnati Academy of Fine Arts under Lewis C. Lutz and Thomas Noble; she continued her studies at the Art Students League and the Academie Julian under Jean P. Paurens and Jean Benjamin-Constant. Lord exhibited her work at multiple academic venues including the Paris Salons, the 1893 Chicago Exposition, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Society of Western Artists. After returning to Cincinnati, she taught at the Cincinnati Academy of Fine Arts for thirty-four years.
