A pair of ink and watercolor furniture design illustrations on paper by well-listed artist Max Walter (New Jersey/New York; 1908 – 1988), dated 1957. These intricate illustrations were intended to be part of catalogs for the prominent furniture and rug company W. & J. Sloane, New York. Included is a design illustration of various mid 20th century modern accent tables and decor. Additionally included, is a mid 20th century modern style dining room set featuring an elegant collection comprised of a buffet, dining table, chairs, and bar cart. The accent table illustration is signed ‘Max Walter’ to the upper right. The pieces are inscribed, stamped and labeled with the company name, date, measurements, and enumerations throughout the margins. The compositions are unmounted and presented unframed.

Max Walter was primarily known for his advertisement and interior design illustrations. He began his formal artistic training at the Art Students League and posteriorly, at The Cooper Union School of Art, New York. Upon graduating, Walter further pursued his artistic career as an interior design illustrator, refining his technique while continuing his education at the School of Interior Design, New York working under the likes of renowned artists Nancy McClelland, Paul Chalfin, and Ruby Ross Wood. Walter worked as an advertisement illustrator for Tomlinson and Drexel Heritage Companies, although most of his refined furniture and design illustrations were created for the prestigious New York furniture and rug company W. & J. Sloane, where he consistently worked for forty years.
