Woodblock Plates of Expert Cincinnati Penman John F. Siple

A collection of sixteen woodblock plates from expert penman and Cincinnati area resident John F. Siple (1866 – 1964). Mr. Siple is known for teaching penmanship classes at several business colleges including Bartlett Commercial College in Cincinnati and is cited to have been the scribe for the death resolutions honoring United States Presidents William McKinley, William Howard Taft, and Warren Harding, likely on behalf of the Ohio Republican Party. The woodblocks feature Art Deco and Art Nouveau style designs, with some blocks bearing text. Includes one woodblock bearing Isaac A. Weil’s name and one bears ‘John F. Stiple’ in extraordinary penmanship. Also features the woodblock was used by a lawyer’s office thanking Mr. Siple for his poise on the witness stand as his service and expertise was used as evidence in a case seen by a jury. Also includes a photograph of Mr. Siple as well as a newspaper clipping published circa 1956.
