An oil painting on board attributed to French painterÉmile-René Ménard (1862–1930). The composition features fluid strokes in muted tones, depicting a pastoral landscape scene with grazing cows, a wooded tree-line and pale blue sky. The painting is unsigned and housed in a gilt frame with a metal plaque attached the the lower center that reads ‘E. René Ménard, Bueolique’. A wire hanger is attached to the verso.
Émile-René Ménard (1862–1930) was a French painter known for his bucolic landscape and nude figure paintings. In 1880, he studied at the Académie Julian under esteemed French painters William Bouguereau, Paul-Jacques Baudry, and Henri Lehmann. His works continue to be shared in various museums throughout France. And, have also been displayed in the United States in New York and Massachusetts.
