A 20th century carved wooden Bamana Chiwara headdress from Mali. This sculptural headdress features a depiction of a male antelope. The sculpture was once attached to a basket and would be worn during an agricultural celebration; the antelope’s tall antlers mimic long grains in honor of the occasion. Similar Chiwara can be seen in the Quai Branly Museum in Paris.

Condition

- to fair; chipping, scratches, and dents to wood; dust and dirt residue; one hear has been broken and repaired.
