An 18th-Century commode chair and child’s training chair. The larger chair presents a dark stained wooden chair features a slight sack back with a curved crest rail featuring a hand stenciled foliage motif, thin round spindle slats and rolled arms. The child’s training chair presents a drum back and turned spindles. These types of chairs were originally used as “toilet” chairs.
