An early-mid 20th century watercolor painting on illustration board by listed American portraitist and illustrator Richard F. Williams (1908 -1981). This advertisement illustration depicts a content couple sitting at a table having tea within an interior setting. The piece is signed “R. Williams” to the lower right. A biographical and xerox copy article about the artist are included to the verso. The composition is not mounted and is presented unframed.
Richard Williams was both a successful commercial artist and fine artist for decades. He graduated from the Buffalo School of Fine Arts and began creating advertising art for newspapers, and later, for advertising agencies. He was commissioned by The Society of Illustrators and was a member of multiple art organizations including the Hudson Valley Art Association, the American Artists’ Professional League, and the New Rochelle Art Association, among others. Later in life, he pursued a career in fine art and became known for his portraits, but also gained recognition for his landscapes and still lifes.
