A mid 20th century watercolor portrait on paper by listed American portraitist and illustrator Richard F. Williams (1908 – 1981). This work features a grisaille portrait of a posh mid-century woman surrounded by various observant and well-dressed gentleman. The work is unsigned, although a biography and a xeroxed copy of an article about the artist are included to the verso.
Richard Williams was both a successful commercial artist and fine artist for decades. He graduated from the Buffalo School of Fine Arts and began creating advertising art for newspapers, and later, for advertising agencies. He was commissioned by The Society of Illustrators and was a member of multiple art organizations including the Hudson Valley Art Association, the American Artists’ Professional League, and the New Rochelle Art Association, among others. Later in life, he pursued a career in fine art and became known for his portraits, but also gained recognition for his landscapes and still lifes.

- minor dents, negligible wear and negligible corner wear throughout the edges of illustration board; minor scratches, minor stains and minor toning throughout the composition.
