A pair of watercolor paintings on paper by artist and illustrator Harvey Kenneth Fuller (Connecticut, born 1918), dated 1940-1943. As indicated throughout the compositions, one of the works was likely intended as a book jacket illustration of Hugh Walpole’s novel titled Fortitude, originally published in 1913. The second piece was intended to be the cover of an ‘imaginary book’ supposedly by N.W. Craigs titled Frozen Harbor. The artist’s name and dates are inscribed to the versos. The illustrations are mounted beneath matting and presented unframed.

Harvey K. Fuller is primarily known for his comic and children’s book illustrations. From an early age, Fuller’s work was strongly influenced by his father, listed American illustrator Arthur D. Fuller. He worked as an illustrator for various publications by Novelty Comics and Heroic Comics, including Young King Cole, Candid Charlie and Homer K. Beagle.
