A mid 20th century ink, watercolor, and graphite book cover illustration on paper by an unknown artist. As indicated to the upper and lower margins, this work was likely intended for the book cover of Nathaniels’s Hawthorne Gothic novel titled The House of the Seven Gables, published by Rodson. The novel was originally published in 1851 by Ticknor and Fields. The piece is initialed ‘HKF’ to the lower right. The composition is mounted on a gray mat and presented unframed.
