The chest retains an old, if not original, black-painted surface and the side panels are fitted with cast iron handles reading ‘E.C. Stearns & Co. / Syracuse / N.Y.’

Condition

- overall with various scratches, dents, marks, chips, and abrasions consistent with age and use; structurally stable; retains an old, if not original, black-painted surface; scattered wear (chipping and losses) to black paint, with a higher concentration to lid; back panel of lid slightly warped; lid is locked and won’t open (missing key) thus bottom drawer cannot be pulled out unless other two drawers are removed; red fabric lining drawer interiors are heavily stained and with tears/losses.
