An oil painting on linen titled Antibes by celebrated contemporary artist Tom Levine (American, b. 1945), created in 1994. A fine example of Levine’s work, this abstract composition is composed of eight rectangular linen panels affixed together. It features a grid-like design exhibiting rows of shapes on heavy rag paper; filled with gestural brushstrokes and various shapes, the squares are painted with subdued purple and gray hues accented blue and salmon highlights. The work is signed, titled, and dated to the lower margin. A second Tom Levine piece is available, item 18CIN691-065.

Tom Levine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has painted since a young boy. He received a B.A. in English and Business from Miami University, a Master’s in Psychology and Communications from The University of Denver, and an M.F.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. His abstract and figural has received considerable recognition having been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, among many others. Levine is also an avid art collector, having owned works by several of his peers including Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
