Wesley W. Garner (1815-1889) having arrived in Iowa in 1840 via Pennsylvania and Ohio, Wesley, a conveyancer by trade, also working as a farmer, Notary Public, school master and merchant, as well as serving the Union Army as Captain and then Colonel of the Union Guards; late in life returning to farming and running for public office.
