An original signed three-dimensional oil painting on canvas by listed American contemporary artist Tom Levine (Cincinnati/New York; born 1945). The Minimalist piece, a fine example of Levine’s work, is composed of two canvases, each painted bilaterally with the left canvas painted with a broad white band to the left and a mottled dark green band to the right, with an unpainted ragged line dividing the two bands and the right canvas painted in a similar manner, with the exception that the green band is in a medium tone. The two canvas are joined at an angle at the green-banded sides with a metal back support. The work is signed, title, and dated to the verso, and the composition remains unframed. Tom Levine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has painted since a young boy. He received a B.A. in English and Business from Miami University, a Master’s in Psychology and Communications from The University of Denver, and an M.F.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. His abstract and figural has received considerable recognition having been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, among many others. Levine is also an avid art collector, having owned works by several of his peers including Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
