An oil painting on unstretched canvas by well-listed artist George Howell Gay (American, 1858-1931), dated early 20th century. The work depicts a seascape comprised of a tranquil turquoise ocean covered by a cloudy sky and subtly illuminated with warm hues. This piece is signed ‘Geo Howell Gay’ to the lower left. The composition is presented beneath matting, behind glass, housed in a gilt wooden frame.

George Howell Gay was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later settled in Bronxville, New York. He is best known for his watercolor landscapes and seascapes along the New England coast.
