A National Letter File cabinet by the John Morris Company c. 19th Century. The rectangular top rests on two stacked dowel jointed drawers with oval metal label frames on the fronts. This oak cabinet stores letters flat and each drawer presents a metal device to hold papers in place and alphabetical dividers. The cover page to the dividers reads “INDEX FOR NATIONAL LETTER FILE. Patented January 8th, 1884. MANUFACTURED BY John Morris Company, CHICAGO ILLINOIS. For Sale by Stationers and Booksellers.”
