Finely Hand-Knotted Tabriz Pictorial Room Sized Rug with Kufic Script
Item Details
A finely hand-knotted Persian Tabriz wool room sized rug. This unusual rug is rendered in a palette of gray, blue, brown, red, ivory, teal, and green. The field has a central mosque-form infilled medallion framed in an ornate floral and foliate design, with vignettes of deer, urns, columns, and birds. The field features a depiction of a structure to each end, while filling the gray colored field with an abundance of scrolling flowers and leaves. Kufic script is found within urns and cartouches, while framed as a whole in an ivory grounded border designed with leaping deer motifs, palmette forms, and intricate floral and foliate motifs. Framing the field are two blue floral meander guard borders, and an outer crenelated border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’.
