Hand-Knotted Persian Afshar Wool Rug

A vintage hand-knotted Persian Afshar area rug. This wool pile rug is woven in hues of red, green, khaki-gold, pink, blue, brown, and ivory. It commences with a pair of hooked diamond medallions, each bordered with serrated edges and infilled with diamond motifs. The field is delineated with crenellated and sawtooth edges, each short end terminating in three points with cruciform finials, and infilled with S serpent forms and lobed rosettes. A spandrel halo displays floral and foliate motifs, and is framed by X and blossom guard borders, with a tree of life primary border presenting over ivory. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
