Late 19th Century Alfred Morris Conservatory Violin with Case

An circa 1889 conservatory violin with case, made in the workshop of Alfred Morris. This violin is stamped Conservatory Violin on neck. The interior is marked Escelsior AM, Copy of Joseph Guapnepius, Fecit Dresdae anno 1889. Alfred Morris’ workshop was located in Dresden, Germany. This item also includes a hard case with bright green velvet zippered lining. With two bows, one missing strings. The back of the violin appears to be a curled maple, and the front is possibly spruce, with a warm tone varnish. Morris’ workshops produced many instruments which were sold through agents, with popular items often sold under the title Excelsior.
