A cast bronze and tinted glass sculpture titled Ice Box by Greek artist Yorgos Kypris (b. 1954), dated 1995. This sculpture is one of at least twelve similar sculptures from a 1995 exhibition titled Fish. A serrated and tinted glass body is encased in a cast bronze skeletal figure with wound wire extending from the mouth. The blue hue of the glass represents the chilled body of the fish as it hangs from a wire.
Yorgos Kypris originally studied painting in Athens, Greece at Sarafianos School of Art, later graduating from The Istituto Statale D’ Arte Per La Ceramica in Faenza, Italy in the late 1970’s. He has a multidisciplinary background including jewelry production, painting, sculpture, and pottery. Kypris’ work has been a part of solo and group exhibitions throughout Greece, Cyprus, North America, and Europe.
