A 1915 oil landscape painting by well-listed American artist William McKendree Snyder (Indiana, 1848 – 1930). This large-scale painting depicts a downed fir tree in the midst of a small clearing of a woodland interior, wildflowers spreading across the terrain. Artist signature and date are signed to the lower right. This painting is presented in an antique wood frame, likely original to the piece, with cast moulding and a bronze tone finish.

Snyder, an Indiana native, was best known for his hunting genre scenes, forest interiors, and portrait paintings. He studied under formidable Hudson River School artists Albert Bierstadt, Charles Warren Eaton, William Morris Hunt and George Inness. His works are represented in dozens of public and private collections, including the Indiana State Museum and Hanover College.
