An oil painting on board by well-listed artist Nicolai Cikovsky (America/Poland; 1894 -1984). This still life painting features a blue and white pitcher filled with colorful blooms, and several pieces of loose fruit, all arranged on a wooden table in front of draped blue fabric. It is rendered Cikovsky’s typical simple realism and flat color. This work is signed to the lower right. It is housed in a carved wood frame and is equipped to hang.

Cikovsky was born in Pinsk, Poland and received his formal art training in Russia as a young man. There he was influenced by fellow artist Vladimir Tatlin (Russian Federation; 1885 – 1956) as well as the avant-garde European styles of the time including Post-Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism. In 1923 he immigrated to the United States, settling in New York, where he painted scenes from daily life as well as the surrounding landscapes. He traveled throughout the United States, teaching at various institutions including the Art Students League of New York, the St. Paul School of Art, the Cincinnati Art Academy, the College of Notre Dame in Maryland, the School of Art Institute of Chicago, as well as a five year stint at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. His work resides in numerous prestigious institutions, including: the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; the Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C. the Art Institute of Chicago; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and more.

- accretion across painting surface. Small amount of craquelure to upper left corner. Light wear to frame and staining to liner.
