A 19th century oil painting on canvas by artist J. Janson. This finely rendered Dutch genre scene painting captures a working class man in a moment of leisure, on the shore of a busy harbor. He is pouring a drink whilst smoking a pipe, as a woman pauses with her cargo to join in the moment of respite. This work is signed to the lower right. It is housed in an antique wood frame with cast embellishments and a gilt finish.

Condition

- craquelure with areas of lift across painting surface. Accretion and darkening to varnish. Cracking, accretion and small chips to frame.
