A vintage signed hand-knotted Kamalian (کمالیان) Persian Mashhad rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in hues of red, blue, green, pink, yellow, and orange, with ivory accents throughout. It commences with a sixteen-point floral medallion, comprised of palmettes and vasiforms and flanked by pendants. The dark red lozenge field is densely populated with shah abbasi palmettes, vines, rosettes, and lancet leaves, and grounded by ornate dark blue selvedges. Framing the field are barber pole and floral meander guard borders, while the primary border displays a stylized herati motif over deep blue. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe. A label to the reverse reads ‘Made in Iran’.
