Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German, b. 1942)
Untitled (Abstract), 1965
Graphite and oil on paper

A mixed media painting by listed artist, Peter Robert Keil (German, b. 1942). This 1965 work depicts a graphite rendering of a seated woman juxtaposed by an abstract face. The piece is signed and dated to the lower right and presented in a gold tone frame under glass.

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miró. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
