Rudy Ayoroa was born and raised in Bolivia and educated at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He arrived in the United States in 1964, as a visiting professor at American University, eventually settling in Danville, Kentucky. He was a member of the kinetic art movement in the 1950s, creating paintings, prints and sculptures that suggested movement through geometric elements and a palette of contrasting warm and cool hues. Ayoroa’s work resides in the collections of many distinguished institutions, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the Library of Congress; National Museum of American Art; Smithsonian Institution; Museum of Modern Art in Bogota, Colombia and National Museum of Fine Arts in La Paz, Bolivia.
