Karnig Dabanian Art Glass Vase with Peter Schiller Hand Blown Paperweight

A Karnig Dabanian art glass Ikebana style vessel, with a Peter Schiller hand blown art glass paperweight. The vessel is blown with delicate pale blue, smoke and amber to yellow colors and is signed and dated ‘’88’ to the underside, having a polished pontil to the base. Included is a Peter Schiller hand blown paperweight ina bright, deep pink and white swirled stripe, having a rounded form with indentation to the top. It is signed by hand on the polished pontil to the underside.
Karnig Dabanian (American, 1922-2006) was a pioneer in the studio art glass movement. While attending the University of Michigan, he became fascinated with the science of glassmaking and studied under Dominick Labino at the Toledo Museum of Art in the early 1960s. He devised a method of making glass that looked like suspended smoke inside the glass.
