A serigraph on paper titled Folded by listed artist Julian Stanczak (Poland/Ohio; 1928- 2017), dated 1970. This piece depicts overlapping geometric forms rendered with a layered red grid pattern on top. The artist’s signature is present to the lower right corner and edition E.A. is present to the lower left. This piece is presented as loose work in a protective sleeve.

Born in Poland in 1928, Julian Stanczak settled in Cleveland, Ohio after serving time in the Polish army and travelling to Uganda and England. The Op Art movement was named after his first exhibition “Julian Stanczak Optical Paintings’ that featured his distinctive repeated geometrical forms in bright and muted hues. With his masters in art education, Stanczak instructed at both the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Cleveland Institute of Art for a number of years. His work has been collected by over 70 museums, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The National Gallery of Art, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and more.
