An antique European oil painting portrait of a woman in the style of French paintings, 19th century. The painting renders a seated woman in elegant dress, attributed as Anne-Marguerite, Countess of Laugier-Villars. A crest is rendered to the upper left of the composition reading ‘Non Fortior Alter.’ The work is unsigned, presented in an antique gilt wood and gesso frame.
Condition
- several small tears and abrasions throughout canvas; darkening and discolorations throughout; inpainting and discolored varnish, cracks to corners of frame; areas of flaking gesso; areas of worn gold leaf, signs of insect damage to the frame.
