A large-scale acrylic painting on canvas by Chinese-American artist Esther Liu (b. 1950). This work features an abstract figure portrayed with vibrant colors, dark outlines, and gestural brushstrokes, situated seated and hovering forward against a dark ground. Signed to the canvas verso, the work remains unframed.
Esther Liu is an Abstract Expressionist who studied Art at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada and at NYU in New York City. She was a member of the Exoxy Art Group, a collective of artists hailing from Hong Kong and China active in New York in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1994 she had a one man show at the Pao Gallery at the Hong Kong Arts Centre and she was recently included in the Art Across Archives.
