Vintage Waite Hoyt "Babe Ruth As I knew Him" Magazine and Two Babe Ruth Plates
Item Details
A vintage magazine from 1949 with Babe Ruth on the cover titled, ‘Babe Ruth as I Knew Him’ by Waite Hoyt, has wonderful black-and-white pictures of players from years gone by. Waite Hoyt was a star pitcher with the 1927 New York Yankees and one time roommate of Babe Ruth; they were close friends. Waite went on to become the Cincinnati Reds announcer from 1942-1965. He was not only a great announcer, but when talking to some elderly fans of the Reds, they always say that rain delays were a treat because of his baseball stories and many of those stories were about his time when he played with the great Babe Ruth. Accompanied by two 1995 limited-edition plates (no. 140A and no. 694A) called, ’Ruth’s Pitching Debut’ and ‘Barnstorming Days’ by Phil Heffernan. ’Ruth’s Pitching Debut’ is a second issue in the Babe Ruth Centennial, while the ‘Barnstorming Days’ plate is a fourth issue. The plates are made of porcelain. It was made by The Bradford Exchange. There is a gold embossed emblem at the bottom of each plate which celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Babe Ruth, 1895-1995.
