A hand-knotted inscribed Persian Afshari Bijar palace-sized rug. This wool rug begins with a highly detailed center starburst medallion with attached pendants grounded in midnight blue and camel on an open burgundy field. Spandrels are grounded in midnight blue and infilled with palmette medallions, and repeating floral and foliate motifs in rich colors. Framing the field is a primary border with a stylized herati design, as well as flower and leaf guard borders. It is inscribed ‘Sanatkhar’ to a rust grounded guard border at one end. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. It is unlabeled.
