A 1928 lithograph print on wove paper titled Under the Bridge by listed American artist Glenn O. Coleman (New York/Ohio; 1887 – 1932). This print depicts an industrial harbor scene in which a boat captain and business woman walk together, talking amongst each other, as a mysterious shrouded figure quickly moves behind them, watching. Artist signature is signed to the lower left. This work is mounted under matting and glass and housed in a polished wood frame, equipped to hang.

Painter and printmaker Glenn Coleman had a short and difficult life that was reflected in his artistic career. Born in Springfield, Ohio he found work at an Indianapolis newspaper while still a teen, before moving to New York in 1905. There he struggled to support himself through odd jobs, while finding time to paint and study with Ash Can artists Everett Shinn (1876 – 1953) and Robert Henri (1865 – 1929) at the New York School of Art (Parsons). He was known for his sympathetic images of everyday life in lower class New York neighborhoods, before his work took a turn towards Cubist portrayals of architecture later in his career. He had moved to Long Island, intending to paint the landscape, but died before he was able, at the age of forty-five. Coleman was a member of the New Society of Artists, the Society of Independent Artists and the Whitney Studio Club and his work resides in the collections of the Newark Museum, New Jersey, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City.
