A 1990 watercolor painting on paper by contemporary artist Michael Leu (California/Tawian; born 1950). This expressionist style painting depicts a woman and two cats and features gestural brushwork and washes of jewel tone color. It is signed and dated to the upper left corner.

Michael Leu was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1950, and was recognized for his artistic talent at an early age, winning first place International Children’s Painting Contest in Tokyo at the age of seven. He went on to study at the Fusing Art and Craft School in his hometown of Taipei, and later at the Otis/Parsons Institute in Los Angeles, California. Leu is known for his images rendered in a spontaneous style that combines both Impressionistic and Expressionistic influences and his sophisticated sense of color.
