An oil painting on canvas by listed Western artist Joe Abbrescia (American; 1936 – 2005). This painting depicts an small encampment of Native Americans, their teepees standing in the snow on the banks of a small river. Majestic mountain peaks rise in the distance and the entire scene is bathed in glowing, golden light. It is rendered in a painterly brushwork and a soft palette. This work is signed to the lower right. It is housed in a gilt wood frame and is ready to hang with a wire.
Joe Abbrescia, a nationally known Western painter, began studying at the Chicago Art Institute while still a teenager, completing his formal training under William Mosby at Chicago’s American Academy of Art. He went on to serve as an illustrator for the U.S. Army, worked as a commercial artist for a major art studio in Chicago. and founded the Village Art School in Skokie, Illinois, all before settling with his family in Montana to paint full time. He is known for his diverse subject matter that includes landscapes, cityscapes, figurative work and wildlife, traveling the world in search of inspiration. Selected one-man shows include: the Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX; The Newman Gallery, Boston, MA; the Driscoll Gallery, Beaver Creek, CO; and the Texas Art Gallery, Dallas, TX.
