An oil painting on canvas board by well-listed artist Jonas Lie (New York/Norway; 1880 – 1940). This Impressionist painting depicts a cropped view of a harbor scene, as seen from across the water, and is rendered in loose brushwork and a soft palette. This work is signed to the lower right. It is housed in simple wooden frame with a linen liner and white painted fillet.
Jonas Lie was one of the best known landscape painters of his time. His colorful impressionistic scenes, covering a wide range of subject matter and often painted from a dramatic perspective, were widely exhibited across the United States at many notable institutions such as the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, as well as most of the world fairs.
