An oil painting on canvas titled A Blue Ribbon Winner by listed American artist Charles Bullet II (Florida/Kentucky; 1860 – 1927). This equine portrait features a bay gelding posed to the left against a tonal background. It is signed to the lower left and is presented in a gilt wood frame, with a brass plaque indicating the artist and title attached to the base.

Charles Bullet II was born into a family of artists in 1860 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and spent much of his life in Northern Kentucky. He studied art under his father, sculptor Charles Bullett. As an adult he spent many winters painting in Florida, most notably in Ft. Myers, and on the islands of Sanibel and Captiva, and became as well known for his tropical beach scenes painted in luminous color as for his midwestern landscapes.

- canvas has been relined. Scattered areas of inpainting and craquelure. Light accretion across painting surface. Cracking and accretion to frame.
